How to choose the right wall art for your space
How do I choose wall art for a room?
Start with scale, since going too small is the most common mistake. Size a single piece of wall art to about two-thirds the width of the furniture beneath it, or build a gallery wall to fill a larger empty expanse. Match the mood to the room: hang calm landscapes and abstracts in bedrooms, and bolder canvas prints or colourful artwork in living and dining spaces.
What size wall art should I buy?
Measure the wall or the furniture below, then fill 60 to 75 percent of that width. Above a sofa or bed, hang one large horizontal piece or a balanced pair. On a narrow wall, choose a tall vertical canvas to draw the eye up. When in doubt, go larger, because oversized art looks intentional while undersized art leaves a wall unfinished.
How high should I hang wall art?
Centre the piece at eye level, about 57 to 60 inches from the floor. Above furniture, leave four to eight inches between the top of the sofa or console and the bottom of the frame so the two feel connected. For a gallery wall, treat the whole grouping as one unit and centre that.
How do I mix wall art with mirrors and other décor?
Blend media for depth: pair framed canvases with a mirror to bounce light, and fold in wall decorations for texture. Keep one common thread (a colour, a tone, a theme) so the wall reads collected, not chaotic. To skip the arranging, shop a curated collection where our designers have already balanced the wall for you.
